The corporate Cessna Caravan just flew into Wilkes Barre, PA from central Tennessee and the pilot noticed something wasn't quite right with the nose wheel. All those dirt strip landings had probably finally taken their toll.
The problem was quickly identified by an on-field A&P and wound up grounded with a bad nosewheel strut. To save time, a new part was luckily sourced in Fairfield, NJ a few minutes before 16:00- it's always better to source a regional part instead of shipping it in from the other side of the country.
Given the times and distances, the most appropriate solution was rush ground transportation. Tailwind was able to pickup the part by 17:00 and arrive in Wilkes Barre, where the mechanic had it in hand by 19:00. Since he'd already started the repair, the strut was unpacked and swapped right in, signed off and ready to depart for a 7:00 departure into New Hampshire the next morning.
For this case study, we'll look at how we helped a major 3pl with their middle mile shipments through dedicated lanes.
